Whaaaaat is going on here?

You have to work really hard to make an apostrophe bend this way:

How did they do this? If there's a key command that does this, I sure as hell don't know about it!

You can usually make a "backwards" apostrophe by leaving blank the space before the letter. So instead of typing "I'm" they would type "I 'm" and then delete the space between the I & the apostrophe.
